I had a lot of work to do today, so I went to work out as soon as I woke up.

While walking home from the gym I got a call from Varla Jean Merman, or rather, the guy who plays Varla... Jeff Roberson... one of my dearest friends since college. He told me that he had six free tickets to give me... for his HOLIDAY HAM show. I've been so caught up in my own crap that I didn't even know his show started yet! But I was thrilled to be able to go... and to be able to invite some friends to share the experience.

The first people I thought of inviting were Tracey and Justin. They invited Philip and I to go see a movie a week or so ago (but I didn't get the voicemail until today). Tracey also had a friend who she works with (Davis) that wanted to join us. I also invited my friend Skitz (who also came to see a Varla show with us last year).

Philip and I picked up Skitz, then we went to Le Chat Noir cabaret club and waited for the others to arrive. Davis showed up just after 7:30... Tracey and Justin came just after the doors opened to the show at 8.

Oh god, Shelby was also there! We filmed a scene of MARDI GRAS COWBOY in Shelby's attic... jeez that was so long ago. And Scott (a guy I knew from college) was also there! I hadn't seen him SINCE college.

Varla was fantastic, as usual. And the crowd was actually pretty responsive. Maggie (who plays Ann-Margaret in HOLIDAY HAM) was also spot-on. I first met Maggie last December in Las Vegas when Varla (or Jeff, rather) married Donna. Ricky Ritzel was his usual gruff-elf self. I guess Mark (the director of HOLIDAY HAM and the guy in the "Baby Velveeta" video) isn't in town this year.

Speaking of Varla stuff... GIRLS WILL BE GIRLS (the most offensive movie ever made, according to Varla) was supposed to open at Canal Place Cinema tomorrow... but that has been pushed back to December 19th due to some other movies running longer than expected.

After the Varla show we gabbed for a while. It's a shame sexy David J. wasn't bartending at Le Chat Noir... we missed seeing him. I even drank a Manhattan (straight up, with a cherry)... my second alcoholic drink this year! Hey, Tracey and Justin informed us that they got married! I had heard they were engaged... but I didn't know they jumped the broom already. They're the cutest couple ever.
